The Garden of Eden

Some people think that the two specific trees mentioned in Eden are symbolic. That the tree of life represents Christ and the tree of knowledge represents satan. Yet, whether they are figurative or not, doesn’t deter us from the fact that God wanted us to learn from this story with Scripture

I believed that god created the tree of knowledge to trick humanity. In that, he purposefully put the tree there, knowing that Eve would eat the fruit, and so, sent her to her death. Therefore (before I found Christ), I honestly thought that god wasn’t someone who actually loved us. Yet, when I found Jesus and started to read and understand the Scriptures, I began to understand, and then things began to make more sense to me…

You see, the Tree of Life had fruit that imparted immortality to those who ate from it, and the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil had fruit that conveyed moral discernment. Adam was told that he could eat from any other tree, which also included the Tree of Life’s fruit, but he was not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge (but we will go more into that when we study verses 16-17)

I realise now that true love is given as a choice to both parties involved. This means that we can freely love and freely choose to do so, and this is what God did for Adam and Eve, and ultimately, humanity

The sad part was disobedience because it showed that humanity didn’t ultimately trust what God had said to Adam, and we all know the rest of the story. All too often – even today – we can still find ourselves not being satisfied with what we have in our lives. The story of Adam and Eve, and even if we look throughout history, we will see humanity’s true desires, which is for more knowledge, more power, and ultimately to be in control

There can only be one God

I pray that we will understand that the Tree of Knowledge showed God just how broken humanity can be, and yet, He loves us anyway
