Having “peace” within my soul is something that I have learnt is the difference between being in God’s will or learning to surrender to what is
There was a time where I lived in constant fear, and I would be paralysed to move to where God was directing me in case I did something “wrong” in God’s eyes, and yet, I look back now and realise that the enemy was tormenting me simply because I didn’t understand my identity, as a child of God
The Bible talks about many types of peace – within our hearts or inner peace, peace with man, peace with God, world peace, and even false peace. Yet few of us genuinely experience complete peace within our lives. This is because although peace can come from our thoughts and actions, it understands that God is the one who gives us the gift of perfect peace (Isaiah 45:7)
Perfect peace comes from our obedience to God and our faith in Him, to trust that whatever path we are currently on, God is always in control (Isaiah 32:17). This is where the blessing of God’s peace is poured out in our lives and is evident for others to see so that we testify to God’s glory because ultimately, the Bible says there is no peace for the wicked (Isaiah 48:22). There have been countless times when others have seen the circumstances we were facing as a family, and people asked how “we were so calm”, but God’s peace allowed us to have a conversation about Jesus that might not ever have been had if we weren’t obedient to God
However, we need to be aware that the world and even the enemy can use peace against us. There will come a time when the Antichrist will confirm a treaty of peace, only to shatter this after a short time (Daniel 9:27). As Christian’s, we also need to remember that false teachers will proclaim peace when God is about to bring judgement (Ezekiel 13:10-16) and therefore, we always need to go to God, first, whenever there is a conflict because God gave us Jesus, who is the Prince of Peace as an anchor for our soul in hard times
Friends, God doesn’t promise peace in this world, but peace within our hearts, and therefore, we need to understand that we will never truly see pure and lasting peace until Jesus returns (Isaiah 11:1-10)
