I was reflecting with God this morning about what it means to say “yes” and “amen” to Him.
Often, we can say yes to opportunities that look inviting and realise that we were getting caught up in the romance of the ministry (whether that is within the marketplace or church). Our intentions may have been good because of having the heart to follow Jesus, yet, there is a vast difference when saying yes to “man” and saying yes to God.
When God is directing us through the Holy Spirit to say yes, it is an opportunity to exercise the confidence we have in Christ. This means that, usually, we get to step out in faith, trusting God along the way, but ultimately being obedient to what God has asked of us.
How often have we taken the first step out in faith, and then we run back to familiarity? But, we need to remember that trust and obedience are what it means to follow Christ and continue to say yes to God’s call over our lives. Yet, the second part (which we kinda forget about) is what it means to say “amen” to God because, in Hebrew and Greek, this means “truly” or “so be it” to the will of God. This is, therefore, the highest form of praise that we can give to Yahweh, that being, again, obedience to His commands.
The Scripture found in 2 Corinthians 1:20 was a reminder that all of God’s promises of what the Messiah would be like; have been and will be; are fulfilled by Christ. This is precisely why we can say “yes” in Christ because all things are possible with Him, but also, saying amen to whatever God wills is a declaration that His way is perfect.
Friends, we need to remember that yes and amen are not a “feel good” shout out in the presence of others, but an individual spoken covenant of obedience between ourselves and God.
So, even if it means that each of us is crucified on the cross, we must trust God to walk on the path that He has pre-ordained for us and praise Him until we are with Him in heaven
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
