I have often been asked “How do you know Jesus is real?” Then the Holy Spirit comes with desire, for this person to accept Jesus and I take an inward smile.
For me, it seems a rhetorical question, as the answer is an obvious one. It’s like asking a Mother “How does she know she loves her child?” You just know with every fibre in you, as you are happy.
Jesus died on the cross for us to have eternal salvation and Gods only request for us to receive this gift, is to give up everything.
Our old life dies the moment we accept Jesus as our saviour (Galatians 2:20) “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” but is it worth it and can you actually give up everything?
When God created us, he gave us “free will” to make choices. In a sense, once we are born again through Christ – we give up this right to choose our path if we fully submit to God (Matthew 16:25) “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.” Life is the Greek word for Soul. So our soul even belongs to God. There is nothing we don’t give up for him. Think about that – Gods only desire is that we give up everything.
We pray “let your will be done” so God is fully in control and we wait patiently and maybe wait some more, a little impatiently but we can’t see the bigger picture. The important thing is, that God wants us to be truly happy – so that promotion or house sale might never come and then the frustration and covertness to “want” creeps in, as we lust for the materialism of the modern world.
That is not true happiness.
True happiness comes from the void that God fills in our hearts and awakens our souls – our lives. Life begins when you give up everything and receive Jesus. That searching and longing we have, that is filled with money, cars, houses and holidays is what society deems as happiness.
When actually if you submit to God and give up everything. That is when you truly understand – God is happiness.
A research study conducted in 67 countries interviewed parents from diverse cultures, faiths and income levels about what they most wished for their children. The number one answer, by a long shot, was happiness. Every parent wants his or her child to be happy. If you are a parent, you know how true this is. Unconditional love is only interested, in happiness. God is unconditional love
So going back to my first two questions…
Is it worth it?
Wouldn’t you give up everything for unconditional love and true happiness? Look at it as a trade-off. If you give up your old life which is full of uncertainty and sinful pleasures; in return you get more happiness and love that you could ever imagined.
Imagine trying to hold onto the last droplet of water in-between your fingers from an old tap; whereas you could be overflowing with water that would last forever. (John 7:37-38) “Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”
So – when you ask “How do you know Jesus is real?”
Because for the first time in my life, I am truly at peace and happy with where I am and that is because I have God as my guide.
