Something that I have been thinking about doing for a while is writing on a verse that God is speaking to me about, from Genesis through to Revelation (rather than my usual way of “different” verses each time I post)
It will be a systematic Bible study using the SOAP (Scripture – Observation – Application – Prayer) Bible Study method. Therefore, please, feel free to join the journey as I “Walk Through Scripture”
But first, with that in mind, I wanted to give us an “overview” of the book in the Bible; we will then start to read through – for some context – and then I will begin studying the verses from there
Genesis
Purpose: To record God’s creation of the world and His desire to have a people “set apart” to worship Him
Overview: When we think of “begin” or “start” or to “commence”, there is always something refreshing or optimistic about these words, whether it’s regarding a dawn of a new day, a prelude of a new book, or the first mile of a family holiday
The beginning is always free of difficulties and full of promise, which stirs hope and gives us a glimpse of “what could be” in the future ahead
Genesis means “beginnings” or “origin”, and this is the unfolding of the beginning of the world, of human history, of family, of civilisation, and ultimately of salvation
It’s a story of God’s purpose and plans for His creation, and as the Book of Beginnings, Genesis sets the stage for the rest of the Bible
God…
That is where this book begins because right from the start, we see Him creating with His majestic power, but before long, we will read of sin entering this beautiful creation, and satan being unmasked for the true character he is, and unfortunately for humanity, from this point, evil began to weave its destructive web
We should read Genesis and be encouraged because there is hope! We need to remember that no matter how dark the world situation seems, God has a plan, and He is still on the throne. Plus, no matter how insignificant or useless we feel, God loves us and has planned for us to walk with Him in our purpose because salvation is available to everyone
