Taught by God

Many non-Christians still believe that to give their lives to Christ must mean that life will become boring, and being honest, I remember thinking exactly the same thing

I know that I didn’t want to stop partying and I certainly thought that going to Church, every Sunday would be the most boring experience ever

Yet, when I became a Christian, no one told me to stop doing what I used to love. Nor did God part the sky and look disapprovingly at me until I made different choices

It was more that as I got to know God, my priorities changed. I desired to spend more time with Him, and so, I looked forward to evenings where I had “Lifegroups” with newfound friends, and dare I say it, Sunday mornings became the highlight of my week!

It’s an old cliché, but 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐭 and when I think about the parable in Luke 12:19-21, this reminds us so. The parable is about a rich man who drank and was merry and thought nothing of God. Yet, God took the man’s soul and called him a fool because if the man had numbered his days, then his days could have been spent doing things with an eternal perspective

All too often, we can make decisions without a second thought towards God. We might not even pray into 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐠 options, but then later, pray that God blesses the path we have chosen

When Moses wrote this Psalm, he understood what it meant to be face-to-face with God. He understood the importance of spending time with the Father because it brings the wisdom needed to have a Kingdom perspective

If God called us home today, could we say that our lives have been sold out for Jesus? Could we say that we have pursued God for all of our days, and therefore, all of our lifetime ventures had eternal significance? I know I couldn’t, and yet, I also know that God loves me anyway

Friends, the time we spend on this earth is not about 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐝𝐨, but more, Whom our attention is on. If wisdom comes from knowing God, then we need to remember to seek God first in all we do, because then, our perspective will 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐛𝐞 𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥

“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12
