Welcome to Day 25 of the Proverbs Challenge! I can’t quite believe that we are heading into the final week of this challenge, but, there is still so much that God wants to show us, so let’s read Chapter 25, and share what He says.
For me, verse fourteen stood out, but I felt as if this can be a challenge for us all:
“A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.”
Proverbs 25:14
My Thoughts: Have you ever made a promise to give to a cause, a ministry, a mission, or another type of Christian group, and failed to follow through? I have. This verse really captured my heart this morning, because it screams that our yes should be our, yes, and no, our no.
God bought up those of us who promise to give, and don’t, but also, those who provide a little and want to be known as providing a lot.
Ananias and Sapphira (Acts 5:1-11) shows this played out. Our money is ours to give away or to keep, but we shouldn’t want a reputation of generosity, if our actions don’t match.
We need to understand that it’s never been about the amount we give, in God’s eyes, but our heart’s behind it.
My Reflection: When I think of clouds and wind, I always assume that a storm will follow. Rain is the life-giving sustenance from God.
Therefore, just like when the land is parched and needs a downpour, this is the image of when we don’t keep to our word with blessing others because just like when rain is needed, it always brings disappointment to those of us, who are needing it.
What did Chapter 25 show you?
