Welcome to Day 18 of the Proverbs Challenge, and you’ve guessed it, today we are reading through Chapter 18!
Below is the verse that stuck out for me:
“The rich think of their wealth as a strong defense; they imagine it to be a high wall of safety.”
Proverbs 18:11
My Thoughts: How often do we hear that having money would solve almost all our issues? Yet, although it can certainly help, in many ways, I think that for the rich, money brings a whole new set of issues
One thing that always sticks in my mind is when I talked with a woman, who lived in Vanuatu, whilst on a Mission Trip. It sticks in my mind because of perspective and it actually shocked me (in a good way) that she was joyful, happy, and fulfilled even. She had peace
Yet, the ”western world” would deem her as ”poor” regarding wealth, possessions, and lifestyle
She spoke of feeling sorry for us (the western world) because we have too many choices, and therefore, life becomes complicated as we then, do not rely upon God for our provision
My Reflection: When the ”rich” imagine their wealth as their strongest defence, they are actually, sadly mistaken, because money cannot provide safety forever
What I mean is, there are too many ways for money to lose its power. The Government may take it back; thieves may steal it; inflation could rob it of all the value
Yet, God never loses His power. He is the same today, as yesterday, and tomorrow. God is dependable, and has been throughout all of eternity past, and will be throughout eternity future
When I have put my trust in God, He has shown me faithfulness, love, and provision beyond human rationale. Miracles happen when God moves
Therefore, I want to keep reminding myself to look to God for security and safety
What did Chapter 18 show you?
