Welcome back to Day 16 of the Proverbs Challange, and if you are just joining in, this challenge is where we read one chapter of Proverbs each day, and reflect, with God, what He wants to reveal to you. Therefore, today, we are reading Chapter 16!
Do you ever read a verse and it literally stops you in your tracks? Verse 5 did this for me, this morning, so I want to share my thoughts, with you
“The Lord detests all the proud of heart. Be sure of this: They will not go unpunished.”
Proverbs 16:5
My Thoughts: I looked up the King James Version of translation for this verse, and the word: ”abomination” is used for how God feels about being proud. If you ever wanted clarity over what He truly means – here you go! Abomination means, being prideful disgusts God
Wow, this verse is very sobering because God then states ”be sure of this: they will not go unpunished.” Again, God’s directness cuts straight through any prideful thoughts
God has laid it all out for us here…pride is not the outward actions, but our inner thoughts, that will send us to hell. Pride is ugly, and it is something that God quite obviously detests, but for good reason
Satan was prideful to try and overthrow God
Adam was prideful not to acknowledge his wrongdoings in the Garden
I have been, and still can be prideful, in ways, too
I think this happens with us all, but Proverbs 16:5 is the stark reality of why spending time with God, each day, will eliminate pride from our hearts, because our focus then shifts from oneself, to the only One that matters
My Reflection: Pride is the inner voice that whispers, ”Our way is better.” It is resisting God’s leadership and believing that we can live without His help
Whenever we find ourselves wanting to do something our way, or we look down on others, we are being controlled by pride
Pride is ugly
Just thinking briefly about pride, it has caused so much destruction within the world, and yet, God states that it is the things we discuss within our minds, that is worse
Pride leads to disgrace, conflicts, punishments, and destruction, but ultimately, pride will bring humiliation and our downfall upon humanity. If only would realise that God is God, and humanity is not
What did you get from Chapter 16?
