Playing Church

I first read this quote back when I was in Bible College from A.W.Tozer. It put things into perspective for me about what the church “should” look like, rather than what “some” churches continue to do, even today

There are so many churches who continue to “play” what they believe church should be, over what Christ clearly explains, and this is the danger because I think of the parable of the Ten Virgins, read in the Gospel of Matthew, that when Christ returns, there will be Christians turned away at the door

Just because we attend a church, as individuals, sing the songs, and tithe, doesn’t give us automatic entry into Heaven. The same goes for the church itself; the church has to be more than a gathering of people, spending time together. As Tozer said, eleven dead people don’t make a football team! So, just because we attend a church doesn’t make us a Disciple of Christ

The Scripture in Ephesians 4:15-16 shows us that everyone’s purpose, everyone’s ministries, everyone’s goals, and everyone’s hopes and dreams, should flow from Christ and lead us deeper into Him because in doing so, EVERYONE will use their God-given gifts to contribute to the growth of all

Dead people, and dead organisations that call themselves “Christians or churches” won’t be doing much for the Glory of God, but these verses go onto say, that when we are in unity with Christ leading us, the church is then built up, and working in perfect love

Friends, the Bible warns us that we will not know the day that Christ is returning. Life is so precious and short, that we need to be asking ourselves if we are walking with God? Is our church a true reflection of what the Bible shows? And, are we being accountable to doing the Will of God for our lives? Because, this is it – the path that we choose in this life (regardless of whether we deem it the right one) will determine where our path leads for eternity

Asking the tough questions is not wrong, especially when our souls are at stake!

Today, I encourage us all to spend time with God and ask Him if we are simply playing church, or even, playing at being a Christian because, in all things, we should be maturing within our relationship with God, but also, helping others to do the same

“But instead we will remain strong and always sincere in our love as we express the truth. All our direction and ministries will flow from Christ and lead us deeper into him, the anointed Head of his body, the church. For his “body” has been formed in his image and is closely joined together and constantly connected as one. And every member has been given divine gifts to contribute to the growth of all; and as these gifts operate effectively throughout the whole body, we are built up and made perfect in love.”

My hearts desire is for everyone to have an intimate relationship with Christ. To hear the voice of God and to experience His presence. Also, to help disciple others to discover their purpose within the body of Christ - through the power of the Holy Spirit.

My God-given dream is to break down barriers within life and the Church as a whole to strengthen and develop relationships within every denomination and bring unity - so that we will collectively raise up together and fulfil the Great Commission, within this lifetime.

I am living proof that no matter what your past was or whatever your life has become - God will use you to fulfil what He created you to do, when you step out in obedience and faith.
