I remember as a little girl being “bought down a peg or two” when I became too “big for my boots.”
There have also been times in my adult life, where pride has got the better of me, and although at the time, it wasn’t a pleasant experience, reflecting, it allowed me to draw from experiences that hopefully now keep me more humble
Initially, when I read this Scripture this morning, it took me back to the feelings I have had, that bought shame when people spoke about my pridefulness, but this is the difference between man and God
Man seeks to humiliate to bring shame on a person so that it becomes their identity. Whereas God will humble to remind us, that we are not Him
Both might seem the same but are entirely different. This is because although both, not pleasant experiences, God wants us to remain humble so that we are teachable to God’s ways; He can then guide us through life’s journeys; and ultimately, being prideful means it’s all about us, whereas the Bible shows us that we should raise others, and love them as we love ourselves
“Jesus replied, “The most important commandment is this: ‘Listen, O Israel! The LORD our God is the one and only LORD. And you must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your mind, and all your strength.’ The second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ No other commandment is greater than these.” Mark 12:29-31
