”I am the First and the Last; there is no other God.” Isaiah 44:6
Our Daughter, Sarai, has these bright and colourful bookends, that she has had since birth in her bedroom, but she uses them to hold her Bibles, devotions, and any other book she loves.
God gave me an image this morning of those bookends, but it was one encompassing our lives and history as we know it!
God is the eternal One – the beginning and the end. He is the Alpha and Omega, which is the first and last letter of the Greek alphabet.
Numerous times within the Bible, God shows us Who He is, but for me, this name brings comfort, joy, and peace because God has already written our story and that no matter what happens, God has ruined the plot, by sharing the ending with us.
I have always been an individual who loves to know endings!
Growing up, I always had to read the last few pages of a book to find out the final moments of the story.
Even now, I still look at the dessert menu before anything else in a restaurant, because I plan my meal from the end, backwards.
Also, being prophetic, God gives me insight and foresight. I see past, present, and future, as He gives me words for people or circumstances.
God is the bookend to history and our lives because although what’s in between the bookends may look different over time, as a God who shapes and moulds us, the bookends never change, because they remain firmly planted, whilst holding everything together
