Your Person

Have you ever had an amazing group of friends but still felt alone?

Recently our daughter, Sarai, has been longing for ”her person.” She is an outgoing and bubbly little girl who makes friends easily (thank you Jesus) but her prayers are for more. Not for more friends but for a deeper connection.

A while ago, one of my closest friends said that she had been praying for Sarai to find her ”Jonathan” – this confused me initially because in the UK, (we now live in Auckland, NZ) one of her best friends, was a boy called Jonathan, and so I had to giggle, but Vee was talking about Sarai finding a friend that would become like David and Jonathan in 1 Samuel 18.

David and Jonathan were so close that they made a covenant between themselves to protect and love each other.

This wasn’t an average friendship. This was a lifelong commitment of ”do die” for each other. This also wasn’t an eros/passionate kind of love, like you’d find within marriage. This was pure agape – unconditional and fearless.

“And Jonathan made a solemn pact with David, because he loved him as he loved himself.” 1 Samuel‬ ‭18:3‬

Sarai hasn’t read about this story in the Bible, but I have been thinking and praying about her finding someone that she has that deep connection with, to walk with her through the bad times but to celebrate in the good.

We were all created for that deep intimate relationship with God, and I feel that this part of scripture also shows that we should also long for it in the natural sense as well.

Do you have ”your person”?
