Have you ever experienced someone walking away from yourself or turning their back on you, in your time of need?
I have.
That heartbreaking moment when your friend, family member, co-worker, or lover, literally turns around and walks away, leaving yourself with not only the heartbreak of rejection but also, to deal with whatever you are faced with.
God reminded me of a time that this happened in my life, this morning, and although I would have preferred to reminisce on more joyful occasions, it is a reminder of God’s faithfulness to His children.
We often wish that we could escape our troubles – the pain of grief, loss, sorrow, and failure; or even the mundane, small frustrations of life that wear us down. Yet, God promises always to be close to us.
Psalm 34:18 spoke to me this morning because I realised that when God is close, it means that He’s not next to us. This is because there is always a choice, as to whether we want His loving embrace.
God will never leave us, and He will always give the encouragement and wisdom needed to get us through whatever life throws at us, but we still need to decide – to admit – that we need His help. Only then, will God save us with His love.
